Look before You Leap into Mobile Broadband
When I took on my first mobile broadband connection package like most people, I think in my eagerness to get online I paid little attention to the costs involved in buying the dongle and getting connected to the Internet. Now with hindsight I think I should have been a little more attentive when making my commitment to purchasing my package.
3 offers a 12 month deal at £15 per month and no charge for the dongle, with 3GB of download available for each month. Vodafone has an identical offer except there is an additional £39 charge for the dongle and the contract is for 24 months instead of 12.
Over at T Mobile they are offering the same £15 per month for two years with the seemingly standard 3GB limit.
Although on the surface all of these offers are similarities obviously if you intend to download a lot of data Orange has the upper hand, but you are paying £5 more per month, which again, is good if you are downloading a lot, but are not it is £5 wasted.
There is another area to consider, speed; Vodafone is the fastest of the main providers offering a superfast 7.2Mbps. I am hoping that somewhere in the not too distant future providers will offer unlimited downloads such as Orange provides combined with the speed of Vodafone. I am guessing as with fixed Internet connections things will move quickly and these dual options will soon become available.
