Tilt Spotting

Poker players who are experiencing a bad run of cards or who have played too long without a break and proper nutrition often go on tilt. Being able to recognize players who are prone to tilt and recognizing it when tilt takes over gives you easy opportunities to win against these players.

Any poker player who goes on tilt plays badly. When the tilt windows opens, you need to be prepared to get the most value out of that player who is not focused but instead overwhelmed by fatigue and emotions, most often anger and frustration.

To spot tilted players, observe the people at your table after they take a loss - and not just immediately after one loss but for several hands afterward. Are they fidgeting more and playing lots of hands? Do they mumble and gripe about their bad luck? Some players can just shrug off a loss and move on. Tilted players on the other hand have impaired thinking and often just call off the chips. It’s almost as if they become suicidal at the table.

Another indicator that a poker player has gone on tilt after a loss is an eagerness to get back into the action. Are they acting even quicker than earlier on in the game, and impatient with slow action and decisions? These players are more prone to engage in blatant bluffing just to create action.

When you spot a titled player at the table, look for opportunities to exploit the bad play.
